When full, Cougar Reservoir stretches for 6 miles and covers 1,280

Carmen, Smith and Trial Bridge Reservoirs
Camping, picnic facilities, fishing and boat launches are available
at all three reservoirs. The McKenzie River National Recreation Trail
goes through the project area and runs past Sahalie, Koosah and
Tamolitch falls. Beaver Marsh is a popular wildlife and nature area that
has been preserved by EWEB.

Willamette National Forest
The Willamette National Forest (WNF) offers a wide variety of
recreation opportunities during summer and winter months. Its central
location makes it accessible to day-trippers and vacationers alike.
Seven major volcanic peaks exist within the Forest's boundary, and the
Cascade mountains offer virtually endless recreation opportunities such
as developed campgrounds, trails, Scenic Byways, snow activities and ski
resorts. Most of the trails and sites listed below are within the WNF.

Three Sisters Wilderness
There are approximately 260 miles of trail within the wilderness.
The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail traverses the wilderness for 40
miles. Alpine meadows, waterfalls, lava fields, glaciers, and glacial
lakes are abundant. Most trails entering the wilderness begin in dense
forests of Douglas-fir on the western slopes of the Cascades and
ponderosa pine on the eastern slopes. The North and Middle Sisters are
technical climbs over 10,000 ft. The South Sister is more accessible,
with hundreds of people climbing to the 10,358 ft. peak with no special
gear in the summer months.

Dee Wright Observatory
An excellent view of the high mountain peaks of the Cascades, from
Mount Hood in the North to the Sisters and Brokentop in the South. There
are many miles of trails through the black lava beds, and this also
serves as an access point for the Pacific Crest Trail.

Obsidian Falls
A loop trail from Sunshine Shelter takes the hiker by cold high
mountain springs, wildflowers, and obsidian flows and cliffs to a
beautiful waterfall.
